Society at a Glance 2011 OECD: Chile and Mexico

Nos complace compartir con ustedes informes sobre Chile y México de Society at a Glance 2011, publicado por la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico (OCDE).

Los informes de Chile y México destacan sus altos niveles de pobreza y desigualdad y el bajo nivel de confianza entre sus ciudadanos comparados con el resto de los países de la OCDE. Dentro de esta comparación, cabe resaltar los siguientes puntos:
- Chile ocupa el primer lugar y México el segundo en desigualdad de ingresos.
- México tiene el nivel de pobreza más alto y Chile el tercero.
- Chile ocupa el más bajo nivel de confianza entre sus ciudadanos mientras que
México ocupa el tercero.

En otro tema, el mismo estudio concluyó que “…entre los países de la OCDE, los mexicanos son los que más tiempo dedican al trabajo (remunerado y no remunerado).” Chile no fue incluido en este ranking.

We are pleased to share country summaries for Chile and Mexico of Society at a Glance 2011, published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The country summaries provide a snapshot of how Chile and Mexico compare to OECD countries on social issues including unemployment, poverty, inequality and social spending.

Within the OECD, Chile and Mexico stand out for their high levels of poverty and inequality, and low levels of trust among citizens. The following points are especially noteworthy:
- Chile ranks first and Mexico second in inequality among OECD countries
- Mexico’s poverty rate is the highest and Chile’s the third highest
- Chile has the lowest level of trust among citizens and Mexico the third lowest

On a separate issue, the study found that Mexicans spend ”…the most total time working (paid plus unpaid work) in the OECD…”. Chile was not included in the ranking for hours worked.
